I grew up on Whidbey Island in Washington's Puget Sound fishing for salmon and bottomfish in the saltwater. In high school, I developed a love for the steelhead that return to the area rivers in the winter - particularly the Olympic Peninsula. I spent four years working and fishing in Alaska and now I live in Missoula and fish primarily for trout in the rivers of western and central Montana. Though I prefer to fly fish, both single-hand and Spey, I am well versed in all conventional styles of fishing as well. I contribute freelance writing and photography to a number of fishing and hunting publications, and am the editor of Backcountry Journal.
